Initial Consultation
Once we’ve reviewed your form, we set up an initial consultation. This conversation—whether in person or virtual—is all about diving deeper into your vision. You’ll have a chance to describe how you imagine using your new deck, what aesthetic you prefer, and what budget you want to work within. Our team listens closely, asking the right questions to make sure we capture not only what you want, but also what you need to make your outdoor living space truly functional.
This stage is also when we share our expertise to help you see the bigger picture. Maybe your property would benefit from a multi-level deck, or perhaps low-maintenance composite materials would be a better fit for your busy lifestyle. We don’t just take notes—we guide you with practical recommendations based on years of hands-on experience in Minnesota’s unique climate.
Custom Deck Design
Here’s where your ideas start taking shape. After the consultation, our design team develops a custom deck design tailored specifically to your property and vision. Every angle, line, and feature is considered with care. Whether you’re interested in adding built-in benches, a pergola for shade, or integrated lighting for nighttime ambiance, this stage brings your dream deck to life on paper.
Unlike cookie-cutter solutions, our designs are personalized to your lifestyle. We account for how you’ll use the space, the flow of foot traffic, and how the deck integrates with your home’s architecture and yard layout. Our team walks you through the plans in detail, explaining the “why” behind design choices and ensuring you feel confident that the finished product will be both beautiful and practical.
Material Selection
Design is only half the story—the materials you choose are just as important. At this stage, we guide you through a variety of options, from the warmth of traditional wood to the durability of composite brands like TimberTech and Trex. Each material has its own strengths, and our role is to help you select the one that best matches your budget, style preferences, and maintenance expectations.
Living in Minnesota means dealing with hot summers, snowy winters, and everything in between. That’s why we pay close attention to how materials perform in our climate. For example, certain composites resist fading and warping better, while some wood species naturally withstand moisture and insects. By weighing these factors together, you can make a confident choice that ensures your custom deck design will stand strong season after season.
Construction
With your design finalized and materials selected, it’s time to build. Our construction phase is where precision craftsmanship comes to life. Every board, fastener, and joint is handled with meticulous care to ensure your deck not only looks incredible but also has the structural integrity to last. We pride ourselves on clean, organized worksites and efficient scheduling so that the construction process is as stress-free as possible for you and your family.
What sets Deck Science apart is the attention we give to the finer details. We don’t cut corners or rush through the build. From the framing you don’t see to the trim details you do, everything is executed with durability and aesthetics in mind. By blending time-tested building techniques with modern tools, we deliver a finished custom deck design that feels solid underfoot and looks stunning from every angle.
Final Inspection
Before we hand over your new deck, we go through a comprehensive inspection process. Our team checks every element of the build to ensure it meets not only industry standards but also the higher standards we hold ourselves to. This includes verifying structural strength, alignment, finishing details, and overall safety.
But we don’t just stop at a checklist. We walk the space with you, pointing out features, answering questions, and making sure you feel comfortable with your new deck. If there’s anything you’d like adjusted, this is the moment we make sure it’s handled. For us, the job isn’t complete until you’re thrilled with both the look and functionality of your custom deck design.
Now comes the most rewarding part—enjoying your brand-new custom deck design. Whether it’s hosting family cookouts, gathering with friends, or simply creating a personal retreat where you can unwind, your deck is more than just an addition to your home. It’s an extension of your lifestyle.
We love hearing from homeowners about how they use their new outdoor space—whether it becomes the go-to spot for summer celebrations or a quiet sanctuary during cooler evenings. With proper care and the long-lasting materials we help you choose, your deck will remain a centerpiece of your home for years to come. And with our warranty and commitment to customer satisfaction, you can rest easy knowing we’ll be there if you ever need support in the future.
