Frequently Asked Questions

Our Team Is Here to Help

Can I add new features to my deck during the remodel?

Absolutely! During your deck remodel, you can incorporate new features such as built-in seating, lighting, pergolas, or privacy screens to enhance your outdoor living space.

How long does a typical deck remodel take?

The timeline varies depending on the complexity of the remodel and the size of your deck. After assessing your project, we can provide a more accurate estimate of how long the remodel will take.

Do you use eco-friendly materials for deck remodeling?

Yes, we offer eco-friendly options like TimberTech composite decking, which is made from recycled materials and is low-maintenance, durable, and sustainable.

Will I need to get a permit for my deck remodel?

Permit requirements vary depending on the scope of your remodel and local regulations. It’s important to check with your local municipality to understand the permit requirements for your area before starting construction.

Can you match my deck’s new materials to my home’s style?

Yes! We work with you to choose materials, colors, and designs that complement your home’s architecture and style, ensuring a seamless blend between your home and your deck remodel.

How can a deck remodel improve safety?

A remodel can address any structural issues or hazards, such as unstable railings, rotting boards, or poorly maintained surfaces, making your deck safer for your family and guests.

What is deck remodeling?

Deck remodeling involves updating or transforming an existing deck to improve its aesthetics, functionality, or durability. This can include replacing old materials, redesigning the layout, or adding new features.

How do I know if my deck needs remodeling?

If your deck shows signs of wear and tear, like cracked boards, unstable railings, or rotting wood, it may be time for a remodel. You may also want to remodel if your deck no longer fits your lifestyle or design preferences.

Can I remodel my deck without replacing the entire structure?

Yes! In many cases, the main structure of your deck can remain intact while we replace boards, railings, and other components. We’ll assess the condition of your deck to determine the best approach.

What are the benefits of remodeling my deck?

Remodeling can enhance your deck’s appearance, safety, and longevity. It also gives you the opportunity to update to low-maintenance, durable materials, making your outdoor space more enjoyable and functional.

How much does a Minnetonka deck remodel cost?

The cost of a deck remodel depends on factors like deck size, materials used, and the scope of the project. You can see our pricing page for more information, and we offer detailed quotes after an initial consultation.

What’s the difference between remodeling and repairing?

While repairs focus on fixing isolated issues (like damaged boards or railings), a remodel involves a broader transformation that improves both the aesthetics and functionality of your deck, often using upgraded materials. Deck Science does not offer deck repairs.

We’re really happy with how our new deck turned out! We had several companies come out and give us bids, and Deck Science fell somewhere in the middle.

Our experience did get off to a bit of a rocky start, as our initial meeting was postponed twice. However, once we finally met with Phil, he really made a difference. He took the time to walk us through everything, breaking down the different options, materials, and what to expect throughout the process. Rather than just giving us a sales pitch, he made sure we understood what we were getting, answered all of our questions, and explained things in a way that was easy to follow. We never felt rushed or pressured into making a decision, which we really appreciated. That initial conversation with Phil was ultimately what sold us on choosing Deck Science over the other companies.

There were a few other hiccups along the way, and not everything went exactly as planned. That said, the issues were addressed and resolved, which we appreciated.

At the end of the day, we have a deck that we absolutely love, and that's what matters most. We're glad we chose Deck Science, and I especially want to give Phil credit for taking the time to help us understand everything throughout the entire process and making us feel confident in our decision!

I am very happy with the work that was done. The deck looks beautiful and was completed quickly. Communication was good and pricing was fair. I like that they work with greensky financing, too.

Good design, accommodating our specific situation, which a couple of other companies weren't willing to take on. The guys who did the building worked really hard and kept the site clean. The final result looks great, and came in on budget despite a few surprises.

We had an overall great experience with Deck Science. David was very helpful, detailed, and thorough in the beginning, making sure we could achieve what we wanted from our project. Emily did an awesome job helping move everything through to completion, and Joe was also very helpful toward the end.

There were a few hiccups along the way, as well as some changes we made during the project, but the Deck Science team remained patient and professional throughout the entire process. Daymon and the onsite crew did a great job and built us a beautiful deck. We’re very happy with the finished result and appreciate everyone’s hard work!

Deck science was great to work with! I love that we got updates all the time. The crew we had was AWESOME! They were hard workers, especially with all the rocks they ended up having to dig out when putting in the footings! We love the new deck!

Alexander Santos and deck science made getting a new deck absolutely seamless. I was informed in every step of the process. They even took the time to break down the price and show me what I was actually paying for. The crew did a beautiful job, the deck came out exactly how Alexander Santos said it would. Couldn’t suggest a better company and representative to partner with on a new deck then Alexander Santos and Deck Science.

Very happy with my Deck Science experience. We had a lot of trouble with the city and so had to go through several design iterations. The team and my sales representative were all very supportive and creative about finding good solutions to our problems. I also really appreciated that they stuck to their price and their timeline. I highly recommend Deck Science if you need a custom deck.

The Deck Science team and all members we got to work with were amazing from start to finish. We bought a new house last October, and the deck was an issue. After having a couple companies come out to quote us, Todd from Deck Science gave me a reasonable quote and worked with me to have the project fit our budget. After we got scheduled Emily kept us up to date throughout the entire process. She even helped provide concrete contractor options (which she did because she is an amazing human, not in her job description) and put our concerns at ease throughout the process. Then the guys that built the deck. Fantastic. Damon, Zach and the rest of the crew tore down the old deck, hauled all the debris away, and built the entire deck within about 6 days, with almost zero damage to our yard btw. Talked my through any questions I had, and even caught a major problem we had with our irrigation (we had an under ground leak that they noticed and helped troubleshoot the problem). Hard workers, fair and professional. Couldn’t recommend this team more!!!

We had a few deck companies come out to give us a quote to rebuild our deck. Deck Science has really checked all of our boxes. I can’t tell you how great of an experience we have had with Micah! He goes above and beyond to explain all the ins and outs of the products they offer and the process of how the deck will be built. You can tell Micah really strives to help his clients feel confident the whole way through. We are beyond excited for our deck to be built!

Alex @ Deck science has been fantastic to work with from the very beginning of the deck project. He’s been patient in answering ALL the questions, no matter how small, and has been flexible in adjusting the plans to accommodate city requirements and limitations. He even brought the mobile showroom to my home, which made choosing the design and materials so much easier. His professionalism, communication, and attention to detail have made the entire planning process a great experience. We can’t wait to get this project started!

We had 5 deck contractors out to quote us on a new build (14x16) maintenance free with stairs. DeckScience wasn’t the cheapest, but weren’t the most expensive either. We appreciated the hour initial session where they showed us all the product options we could choose from. They have a wonderful warranty too. The team, yes team, kept us up-to-date on our project via an online site. From draftsman sending over the first draft of the deck, to revisions, city permit files, crew assignments, etc. - it was all communicated through the online site. On build day, the crew showed up bright and early. They cleaned up after themselves every evening before heading home. Having the deck space picked up was huge for us as we have dogs walking around who are curious, lol. Our deck was built in ~4 days. The entire team was professional. I give them 5 stars for communication too. Highly recommend!

We had a great experience working with Micah at Deck Science. Before choosing them, we had several other deck companies come out for consultations, and Deck Science was the best experience.

Micah spent over 2 hours with us during our initial consultation. He was transparent throughout the process and there was no pressure or “sales pitch” feeling at all. He genuinely wanted us to make the best decision for our home and our budget.

Micah was a pleasure to work with and it’s clear that he cares about the quality of his work and the experience his customers have. We would absolutely recommend Micah and Deck Science to any family or friends looking to build a new deck or replace an old one.

I can wholeheartedly endorse Deck Science and encourage anyone looking to build or remodel a deck to give them a serious look.
